Honeygrow – Philadelphia

Weekend is almost here and it’s time to quit cooking and start restaurant hopping, which I very gladly did. Are you on diet? Are you counting calories? Are you reading the whole description while ordering? Well, you don’t need to this time. Because I bring to you, honeygrow.

This Philly based start-up, is still 5 years old, but the food you eat, you will remember for a long time. We have a branch near our place in City Ave, Philadelphia and I happened to visit it, because I had a discount coupon from a long time ago. Coupons come and expire, but this remained to be my favorite weekend pick, since for a while. Now let’s talk food.

Don’t you just love the look of it already? It tasted equally well too. Let me explain. The one on the left is the Hakusai Salad and the other is the Red Coconut Curry, with a side of garlic bread. The place has customizable options for vegan, vegetarian and gluten-free diets as well. I choose vegetarian.

Hakusai Salad

This felt like a royal salad that I treated myself with. It was a mixture of arugula, cabbage, asparagus, soybeans, shredded carrots, honeydew, hot and sour pickles, and roasted cashews with a dressing of miso mustard sauce. Like I said, it can also be created with your own choice of greens. The salad was right on point – filling, but not too full, tangy, salty and hot, and not too bland.

Red Coconut Curry

Frankly, I just ordered it because the name seemed curious. But this was just way too yummy for a random stir-fry. This one was rice noodles in combination with roasted tofu, pineapples, jalapenos, bean sprouts, scallions, cilantro, red coconut curry sauce. The pineapples sure gave it a tinge of sweetness, but I guess that was the essence of the dish. Not spicy, not bland either with non-sticky soft noodles. The presentation made it more edible.

The lines are usually long during the weekends, but it is totally worth the wait. The ambiance, friendly staff, easy check outs and the presentation of food are the highlights. I would gladly suggest this easy grab, especially for people with diet and calorie issues. Although they are a start-up from Philadelphia, they have expanded to branches all over the country, New York, Boston, Chicago, to name a few. Almost all major cities for that matter.
