The Indian Kaffe Express

Bonjour Mon Ami and welcome to Pondicherry – a port town, a natural beauty and a fusion of the French and Indians. When Puducherry was colonized by the French, they just transformed the city. The yellow pastel walls, the French rues and clean streets are what they brought to this union territory. Also, not to mention, the blend of both the culinary cuisines. One such pick is The Indian Kaffe Express.

This hip restaurant is situated on the brink of the French colony, just where the Indian streets end. Located on the Rue Domas, which means, Dumas street, this place is hard to miss, with its fancy fonts and fairy lights from the trees above. The place offers a variety of dishes, ranging from international breakfast to local dinner. As the name suggests, it is also famous for the typical Indian filter coffee. When we went there, we had a bit of everything.

Mushroom and Pesto Open Sandwich topped with Fried Egg

Yes, like you can see, it looks pretty inviting, and, it tasted it’s worth too. It is a bread toast with pesto spread over, and mushrooms sandwiched in between, topped with a sunny side up. This sandwich is a great pick for breakfast, as it not only healthy, but also filling. Don’t be fooled by its French looks, it most definitely tastes Indian with all the sautéed mushrooms in spices.

Mumbai Tawa Pulao

The Mumbai tawa pulao, like the name suggests is a veggie pulao, but in Bombay style. Pulao is generally, just plain rice with little diced vegetables and is often bland. This one is instead, spicy with veggies fried in Mumbai masala. This is what you need when you are super hungry. Tastes great and is a filling pick for lunch or dinner.

Herbed Vegetables with Rice topped with Aloo Patty

This sure was the showstopper. A bowl of rice topped with a rich gravy of herbed vegetables. And then comes the hot aloo patty with cheese on it. Filling, yes of course, but also very delicious. You should take time to treat yourself with this robust lunch.

The Indian Kaffe Express has great ambiance, with good music. This combination just works out well with the cozy seating arrangements and yummy food. The prices are little above average, but that’s the normal when in comes to Pondicherry. So next time you are in Puducherry, White Town, do drop by this place, preferably for breakfast. Lunch works too. Happy Dining!!
