Fall Foliage Drive To Asheville, NC

So.. Morrisville has been treating us wonderfully so far. Warm people, lovely weather, lots of Indian communities and loads of home food, can’t believe it’s already been a month of all this happiness. The silver lining is the season. Fall is here and nobody can escape from it’s captivating beauty. North Carolina is itself a treat for nature lovers in all seasons, but come October, the place turns into a Reese’s peanut buttercup topped with caramel and graham crackers, kind of paradise.

Alley in Downtown Asheville

The birds are enjoying before migrating, wild life is relishing the last sunshine for the year and us humans – we have an eye-feast of this splendid combination. And what better way to make the most of it than a long drive to country side? Last weekend, we took a long drive to Asheville and it was just the best nature trip till date.

Asheville Downtown

Asheville is a beautiful little town in the Blue Ridge Mountains in North Carolina, about 3.5 hours away from Raleigh. It is again an hour away from the Great Smoky Mountains, where fall colors can be viewed the best. I have visited quite many little towns in the US, but this was by far the cutest. The place is a combination of historic architecture filled with the modern art and diverse people.

Downtown Walk

The streets are colorful and full of life, with tiny emporiums and artistic souvenirs available all over the place. When in Asheville, make sure you gather as many collectibles as possible. The street artists, be it bagpipers or instant writers, bring about an inspiring vibe. Rustic crossroads, with old town buses and patio cafes, make you want to sit down, grab a coffee and dwell into your creative side.

Brewery Hopping

One of the super famous thing about Asheville, is it’s local breweries. There are tons of breweries crafting fresh beer in distilleries, then and there. Downtown is filled with many of these, lining next to each other, competing with the best of the best batches. My suggestion if you plan on brewery hopping, is to order the recommended beer flight, of that place. Beer flight is basically what you see below, four mini sized pints of the different flavors of beer, which must be had in a specific order. My favorites, were the Hoppy Flight from Catawba and Malty Flight from Twin leaf.

Where to Eat?

And food? There is so many varieties of inexpensive food. Street food is available throughout the town. Dessert places and cafes with cute decor don’t fail to attract you automatically. For a sumptuous delicious lunch, there is a popular Mumbai based Indian food joint – Chai Pani. The place is extremely popular, with wait lines easily up to 40 mins. We checked in to the restaurant to see what the hype was about and guess what? We were not disappointed at all. We fully understood why Americans were okay with the huge wait list. Below is my Zomato review on it. But as you can see, the picture says it all. I must say ‘Ghar Ki Yaad Aa Gayi

The Great Smoky Mountains

The Great Smoky Mountains are an hour away from Asheville, but if you manage to find a stay in a high rise hotel, the view is splendid. Nevertheless, definitely go visit the Smokys, because that ride is an experience in itself. It is nature at it’s finest. The joy that the never-ending canopy of trees gives you cannot be explained in words. This is the best season to cherish every
last bit of sunshine with breath taking mountain views. And Asheville is pit stop number one.
